Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling the activities of his department and staff. He/she is in charge of yard maintenance, inventory management, quality control of the chainsaws and provides the best possible service to the other departments. He also participates in the development of the organization.



  • Plan the physical layout of the raw material yard to the finished products;
  • Coordinate and control the quality of logs and fiber cutting by ensuring that the right grades of logs are sent to the right place ;
  • Ensure that the logs cut in the yard meet the required quality specifications;
  • Ensure that the needs of the various departments are met and that quality service is provided;
  • Optimize the use of equipment under his supervision to minimize costs;
  • Plan and direct the work of the operators;
  • Ensure conscientious use of materials and equipment;
  • Ensure the follow-up of the maintenance of the lifts in collaboration with the supplier;
  • Control the work done in the yard (non-conforming packages, order and cleanliness, bottom of the pile);
  • Ensure the quality of the work of subcontractors;
  • Coordinate and plan yard maintenance activities (snow removal, sanding, road maintenance);
  • Carry out inventory rotation;
  • Ensure the management of by-products;
  • Manage yard projects;
  • Replace yard men as needed ;

Human resources

  • Manage the personnel of his department (absences, leaves, vacations, overtime, etc.);
  • Move personnel within the department. Identify surplus or shortage of personnel;
  • Manage the performance, training and development of staff;
  • Ensure the admissibility of the requests of the men in his charge;

Health and safety

  • Ensure compliance with the rules of movement of vehicles and people in the yard and the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) ;
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and policies in order to maintain a safe work environment;
  • Ensure that all personnel, contractors, carriers work in a safe manner;
  • Write reports and analysis of accidents related to employees;
  • Actively participate in the functional and safe improvement of the department’s work environment (safety of the premises, cleanliness, clearing of passages, reinstatement of guards, etc.);
  • Enforce lockout and other procedures;
  • Ensure the follow-up of temporary assignments of employees under his/her responsibility.


  • Collaboration with the Head Office Sales Offices;
  • Collaboration with the secondary processing plant;
  • Responsible for the sale of lumber to employees;
  • All other related tasks.
